Backyard Cabana - Dock House Renovation | Savannah, Georgia
This structure began as a potting shed for orchids, but the homeowners had a vision of turning it into an indoor/outdoor cabana, complete with plumbing and wiring.

The siding and rotten framing were removed. New framing was installed and extended to create a covered patio area. Reclaimed Savannah Grey brick makes up the new brick patio. New windows, a new metal roof, and HardiePlank siding were installed to weatherproof the structure.
The completed cabana and new outdoor space
Using reclaimed wood to cover the interior walls gives the space a rustic look. The masonry foundation was patched and sealed, a barn style door was custom built, and the entire building was painted bright white with flat black trim.
The interior space was finished off with new custom leathered granite countertops, new sink and faucet, refrigerator, commercial ice machine, and TV. Small luxuries for the rustic space are the fan with built-in thermostat for cooling, and the small hot water on demand system for the sink.
History is reflected with custom pieces utilized in the design of the property. The footrest under the exterior pass-thru counter is a large beam that was retrieved from the salt-water inlet behind the property. The Art Deco light over the sink is an authentic fixture found in Savannah, which required complete refurbishment to bring it back to life. The Shrimp sign hanging under the countertop was discovered in the attic when the property was purchased. The previous occupant once sold shrimp from the dock.
The completed cabana is weathertight with new metal roofing, new windows and hardi siding. The cabana includes a kitchen area, indoor bar seating, covered outdoor brick patio seating, an oyster table, a low country boil station and wifi for the tv and speaker system.
